Colours and textiles have always had a big meaning in my life. As a teenager, before studying textiles and fine art at Goldsmith´s College in London and at the Art Academy in Berlin, I already experimented a lot with natural dyes. During my years at college I  developed my own mixed media technique of treating fabric with colour and machine embroidery to create large partition hangings for interiors. After college I felt I needed to know more about hand weaving and was very lucky to have the experienced weaver Ruth Brachwitz to teach me so much about it. My main interest was in learning all about the ikat technique and thus to dye my own yarn before weaving it.

I am also a trained translator and mainly worked in that field for many years specializing in translating textile books into German.

For several years I have now gone back to the practical work of sticking my hands into the dye pots whenever possible. I rented a workshop in a small village south of Berlin. It is not a short way to get there, but the space, the peace and quiet and the wonderful nature around it are absolutely worth it.
